University of Rajasthan students scramble for hostel spot due to strict Covid rules | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Many students at the University of Rajasthan (UK) are struggling to find a seat in a hostel due to Covid guidelines. There are a lot of hostels in the university where the list has been uploaded for new admissions as they need to maintain social distancing in the rooms. Many students admitted this year are now struggling to find accommodation.
Riya, a first-year master’s student, said she was told the list of Malviya hostels would be released soon, but later they were told that due to guidelines from Covid, the university was struggling to publish the list.
“I had to stay in hotels for a while, but when it became clear that the list would not be published, I booked a room in a PG. It’s unfair because we went to a government university so that we could stay on campus in cheap accommodation, ”Riya said.
Another student Siyali said that almost all hostels have withdrawn from their list except Malviya because already 90 girls are staying there. There are more seats in hostels, but due to the pandemic the administration is unable to allocate them to students.
An administration faculty member said they had to follow the rules set by the state government. “In the youth hostels in Malviya the rooms are small although they are two places. When the number of Covid cases increases, it will be difficult to manage its spreads in hostels. Once the situation becomes normal, we will remove the list, ”said a faculty member.
NSUI spokesman Ramesh Bhati said it was necessary to find another arrangement for these students, otherwise they would have to pay a high amount in hotels or travel every day from neighboring villages.
