The Staffordshire travel agent had the busiest January in its history with a huge increase in the number of people booking holidays

A Staffordshire travel company has seen a huge increase in the number of people booking holidays, saying the change in covid quarantine rules is a “real game changer”.

Blue Bay Travel, in Trentham, reported its best day of trading since before the pandemic on January 31, 2022 after the government scrapped the requirement to test vaccinated travelers and scrapped quarantine for those who are unvaccinated.

The company also posted record growth, with the long-haul travel specialist receiving the highest volume of bookings in a month since January 2020.

As part of its growth plans and fueled by the January boom, Blue Bay Travel, launched in 2003, is recruiting for 10 new positions, including full-time and part-time personal travel advisors and a customer relations advisor to full-time, as well as a full-time Product Assistant and Promotion Assistant.

The company specializes in long-haul travel to the Caribbean, Mexico, Indian Ocean, Asia and the Americas.

Chief executive Alistair Rowland said: “The government’s overhaul of the covid-19 testing and quarantine rules in early January was a real game-changer and we’ve had a bumper month as a result.

“January was a record month for website traffic, and we also had the highest volume of online bookings in a month that we’ve ever had.

“Our most popular destination for bookings at the moment is the Maldives, as guests seek barefoot luxury and total escape after two years of lockdown and restrictions.

“Mexico, Dubai and the Dominican Republic are also popular, particularly because they will accept unvaccinated holidaymakers.

Blue Bay Travel’s Alistair Rowland said he had an “outstanding” year

“As a company, we are proud to have been able to retain all our colleagues during the pandemic period and now we are ready to hire more.

“The January boom has accelerated our growth plans and we are actively looking to recruit for a range of roles. We want passionate, energetic and smart people to join our dynamic team this year as travel makes its well-deserved comeback. “
