Popular Bay Area hostel HI Marin Headlands is now permanently closed

HI Marin Headlands Hostel, a popular low-cost accommodation option nestled in the wooded hills of Sausalito, is permanently closed, according to the voice message coming out of the hostel.

“Thank you for calling HI Marin Headlands Hostel. As of April 1, we are permanently closed and cannot accept future bookings,” the recorded message read. “If you have any questions before May 31st, please leave your name, number and reason for calling.”

The rustic inn sits within the boundaries of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, about four miles east of the Golden Gate Bridge. With inexpensive rooms and easy access to hiking trails as well as Rodeo Beach and Black Sands Beach, the two-building complex is a popular destination for visiting tourists and city dwellers looking for a quick getaway to the city. nature. It has a four star rating on TripAdvisor and 116 reviews, many of whom rated their stay “excellent”.

According to its website, HI Marin Headlands recently ditched its traditional multi-bed-per-room hostel concept in fall 2020 and instead offered entire rooms as units for private groups and families – presumably to accommodate to social distancing protocols during the coronavirus pandemic.

HI Marin Headlands staff have yet to respond to SFGate’s request for comment.
