The HSE is urging residents of Limerick to come for COVID-19 tests at a new pop-up center that is being opened in the city.
The facility will be located at St. Joseph’s Health Campus, rue Mulgrave (V94 C8DV) and will open from Monday August 30th.e until Friday September 3rd. It will operate from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily and has the capacity to test up to 700 people per day.
The free service is run by the National Ambulance Service, with support from HSE Mid-West Community Healthcare and Public Health Mid-West.
The pop-up center is open amid high levels of COVID-19 circulating in the Limerick area. Public Health Mid-West has recorded 370 cases of COVID-19 in Limerick since Saturday, August 21, according to provisional figuresst.
Public Health Mid-West continues to manage a number of COVID-19 outbreaks in different settings such as long-term care facilities, workplaces, and among vulnerable populations in the Mid-West region.
The St. Joseph Health Campus once hosted pop-up clinics when the number of cases increased in Limerick, and the additional testing capacity offered by this decision, as well as the positive response from the Limerick community, played a role. a key role in controlling these epidemics.
Public health medicine specialist Dr Breda Cosgrove said: ‘Unfortunately, we have seen an increase in COVID-19 cases in the Limerick area in recent weeks and we are also aware of the increase in activity social after last weekend. We urge members of the public that if they have symptoms compatible with COVID-19, they avail themselves of testing at this pop-up testing center in St Joseph’s or Ballysimon center. “
Testing continues at the existing COVID testing center located at Old Wickes Building, Eastpoint Business Park Ballysimon (V94 KN73) where pre-booked appointments are available from 7.45 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Norma Quirke, Community Testing Manager with HSE Mid-West Community Healthcare, urges people to pre-book their COVID-19 tests in advance. “We have seen a strong demand for COVID tests in recent weeks, with just under 14,000 tests performed in August alone, and nearly 2,500 of them completed since Monday. * With a large number of people expected at this pop-up center, we strongly encourage people to avoid delays by pre-booking their tests in advance via www.hse.ie. It will also ensure that you are tested at a convenient time for you. “
The tests are also available without an appointment on a walk-in or drive basis at both sites (only until 1:00 p.m. each day at Ballysimon), but those who attend without making an appointment first must bring a photo ID and provide a cell phone number so they can be contacted with their results.
