The Nadi Chamber of Commerce said its members are opposed to hosting in the city of Jetset contacts of positive COVID-19 cases from the Central Division.
It was after the health ministry announced yesterday that due to a shortage of suitable accommodation sites that can serve as quarantine facilities in the central division, they are moving people to Nadi.
He says these are close contacts of negative cases upon entry and fourth-day testing that will serve the remainder of their 14-day quarantine in Nadi.
The article continues after the announcement
Commerce President Dr Ram Raju said it was a violation of protocols at one of the hotels in Nadi that led to the dangerous second wave of COVID-19.
He says this is the last straw that will break businesses because they have endured an economic disaster never before imagined in our history.
Dr Raju says there are other avenues that need to be explored in the central division.
We have asked the Department of Health for a comment on this.
Meanwhile, Dr Raju also demanded that all businesses be allowed to reopen in Nadi, as thousands of people are out of work and without sources of finance to purchase basic necessities.
The House said the $ 90 grocery payments and withdrawals from the Fijian National Provident Fund were only temporary relief, but many are still suffering.
Dr Raju says the majority of business houses are unable to pay their rent or even electricity bills that are already due and no stay is granted.
