Majority of Delhi police personnel ‘unhappy’ with accommodation | Delhi News

NEW DELHI: A large number of Delhi Police personnel residing in staff quarters are “unhappy” with the accommodation facilities provided by the department.
“Currently, the residential accommodation satisfaction level for Delhi Police personnel is only 19.59%,” Delhi Police said in its annual report for 2021.
The Special Commissioner of the Supply and Finance Division, David Lalrinsanga, through the annual report, informed that the department is now planning to redevelop six police colonies and build the new housing projects to improve the standard of Delhi Police staff satisfaction. In particular, the construction, maintenance and upkeep of police buildings, including residential buildings, is an important activity and boosts the morale of the men and women of the police.
There is a separate cell for land and buildings within the P&F division which deals with matters of land purchase, construction of major projects, maintenance and repair of Delhi police buildings and residential settlements.
According to the Delhi Police, 276 staff houses are currently under construction while 309 are at the tendering or planning stage under the Delhi Police construction program which is expected to start soon.
This year, the government in its budget has allocated additional funds of Rs 1,701.03 crore for the Delhi Police taking its budget estimate for 2022-2023 to Rs 10,355.29 crore.
Out of the above-mentioned amount, Rs 259 crore will be spent exclusively on police infrastructure for the construction of office buildings, residential buildings to improve the level of housing satisfaction and the operation and maintenance of the new building police headquarters in PPP (public-private partnership) mode.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police Housing Corporation Limited (DPHCL), which was incorporated by former President Pratibha Patil in November 2007, has undertaken nine Land and Building Cell projects. The DPHCL is placed under the administrative control of the Ministry of the Interior.
For the smooth running of repair and maintenance works, a help desk has been opened at the police headquarters in the districts from December 2021, which resolves grievances related to the repair and maintenance of the premises of the font. With special funds to improve residential building infrastructure and DPHCL initiatives, the “level of satisfaction” is expected to increase in the current year.
