Always wanted to stay and taste the accommodation options in your own backyard? If so, there is no better time to seize the moment. The area offers all styles of accommodation, from luxury glamping to camping, cottages, apartments, B & Bs, hotels, motels, resorts and more. Greater Port Macquarie Tourism Association president Janette Hyde wants locals to have a stay and support tourism-related businesses amid the pandemic. The Port Macquarie-Hastings council lists a staycation as one of 10 ways to support locals. Ibis Styles Port Macquarie General Manager Andrew Grinter supported the stay campaign. “Support your local businesses if you can – your local restaurant, your local cafe and stay a night,” he said. “We employ local people and we really need this support from the Port Macquarie-Hastings area.” Read more: Mr Grinter said the situation has been very calm since the Delta variant outbreak as our main tourist market normally originates from locked areas including Sydney and Newcastle. Business at the 45-room Ibis Styles Port Macquarie comes from essential workers, who are able to travel, as well as some increase in bookings since the lockdown was lifted in parts of regional NSW. The trend is towards last minute travel due to the lingering uncertainty. Upcoming reservations arrive for Christmas and New Years. Nature Domes spokesperson Cardia Forsyth encouraged residents to buy local and support local at times like this. “We need to be more self-sufficient as a community,” she said. “There are a lot of shops and businesses and they all need to be supported.” Nature Domes at Toms Creek, in the foothills of the Yarras Mountains, offers a luxury getaway with a difference. There are two geo-designed domes with independent accommodation and a plan to add three more domes to the track. The accommodation provider is accepting reservations after a closure due to the pandemic during which the focus has shifted to a line of handcrafted gift products. The unique nature of the accommodation experience has secured Nature Domes a spot on a bucket list or two. “We love to create memories for people,” Ms. Forsyth said. “The slogan is let the adventures begin and I guarantee most people leave with some kind of imprint.” Australians almost see their own country as a new tourist destination amid the pandemic. This is the perspective of Jill Perry from Gypsy Falls Retreat. “We have to look to closer destinations to help us get through what has been a horrible time for the past 18 months and now spans two years,” she said. “It’s nice to give yourself a little freedom.” Ms Perry encourages locals to take a mini-break and see what the area has to offer. Jill and Con Perry were sold on Gypsy Falls Retreat as soon as they crossed the wooden bridge over the creek. They had found their niche in the eco-friendly tourism industry. The new owners of Gypsy Falls Retreat are giving the cabins a makeover as they prepare to welcome guests in November. Luxury bed Ana Mandara & Breakfast owners Leo and Jennell Markun remain optimistic about the future after the closures, but times are tough in the tourism industry right now. Now is the time to indulge in a stay and support business too. Ms. Markun said it was great to explore your area. “It’s actually the perfect time because we don’t have tourists,” she said. Mr. Markun said now is the time to support local businesses, not only accommodation, but also restaurants and activities. Ana Mandara Luxury Bed & Breakfast is a deluxe experience, from gourmet three-course breakfasts prepared by a chef to views of the Hastings River and all four bedrooms. The purpose-built riverside B&B on Settlement Point Road attracted guests from all over the world before Australia closed its international borders.
